US-Iran Peace Talks Collapse as Trump Cancels Envoys' Visit

Diplomatic efforts to end the US-Israeli war with Iran have stalled after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi left Pakistan without reaching an agreement.

US President Donald Trump cancelled a planned visit by his envoys to Islamabad, further diminishing hopes for a resolution.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that Tehran would not enter "imposed negotiations" under threats or blockade.

He insisted that the United States must first remove "operational obstacles," including its blockade on Iranian ports, before any groundwork for negotiations can proceed.

The deadlock has increased tensions in the region and contributed to rising energy prices, inflation, and concerns over global economic growth.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also ordered attacks on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, testing a three-week ceasefire.

President Trump stated that he cancelled the envoys' visit due to the excessive travel and expense involved and described the Iranian offer as inadequate.

He also highlighted "tremendous infighting and confusion" within Iran's leadership, suggesting uncertainty about who is in charge.

Iranian officials, including top negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Araqchi, have emphasized national unity behind the supreme leader, rejecting the idea of internal divisions between hardliners and moderates.

The collapse of talks comes after two months of conflict between the US and Iran, which has already impacted global energy markets and economic prospects.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran has further strained international trade, as it normally carries a significant portion of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.

In Israel, hundreds of protesters rallied in Tel Aviv amid fears that the US-Israeli war on Iran may resume following the breakdown in diplomacy.
