Gaza Transport Paralyzed by Spare Parts Shortage Amid Ceasefire

Transport operations in Gaza have largely come to a halt due to a severe shortage of spare parts amid limited goods flow into the region.

Despite ceasefire terms allowing at least 600 lorries daily, actual deliveries fall far short, with only one lorry carrying spare parts since the ceasefire began.

Data from the Government Information Office in Gaza shows that fewer than half the expected number of lorries have entered since the ceasefire.

This shortage has left many vehicles, including buses and cars, immobilized across the Strip.

Local business owners report that the lack of tyres, batteries, and engine oil has forced many vehicles off the roads.

Mahmoud Sami, a bus company owner in central Gaza, said his buses, which once ran daily routes, have largely stopped operating due to soaring costs.

Prices for essential parts have surged dramatically.

A single bus tyre can cost up to 20,000 shekels (€5,725), and a battery may exceed 15,000 shekels (€4,295).

Repair costs have also increased sharply, with typical car repairs rising from around 2,000 shekels (€575) to over 17,000 shekels (€4,865).
