Ukraine says drones hit Russian port of Primorsk and two tankers near Novorossiysk
Ukraine says its forces have struck the Russian Baltic port of Primorsk and two shadow fleet tankers near the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, in a fresh wave of attacks on energy and port infrastructure.
Leningrad governor Alexander Drozdenko said the attack on Primorsk caused a fire that was later extinguished and that no oil spill was reported.
He said more than 60 drones were downed overnight over the northwestern region.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces also hit two tankers in waters at the entrance to Novorossiysk.
He said the vessels had been used to transport oil and were now out of action.
The strikes matter because Primorsk is one of Russia's largest oil-export gateways and can handle up to one million barrels a day.
The port has been targeted multiple times in recent months as Ukraine has stepped up attacks on Russian energy infrastructure.
The latest attacks come as US-brokered talks aimed at ending the war have stalled.
They also form part of a wider pattern of near-daily drone exchanges between the two countries.
Russian officials said other regions were also hit overnight and into Sunday.
Moscow regional governor Andrei Vorobyov said a 77-year-old man died in a village after a drone strike, while the mayor of Moscow said four drones were downed on their way to the capital.
In the western Smolensk region, governor Vasily Anokhin said three people, including a child, were injured when a drone hit an apartment block.
