Russian strikes hit Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions overnight, killing one

One person has been killed and dozens wounded after Russia launched a large overnight missile-and-drone attack across Ukraine, officials said.

The strikes hit Kyiv and several other regions, with rescuers searching through the rubble of a residential building in the capital.

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said it was an "especially difficult night for Kyiv".

In the city, a nine-storey apartment block was struck and a search and rescue operation began early on Thursday.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko said 18 apartments had been destroyed and that the attack had disrupted the city's water supply.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said dozens of people had been rescued from the building so far.

The attack also damaged other residential buildings, a school, a veterinary clinic and other infrastructure, according to Zelensky.

Svyrydenko said the regions of Kremenchuk, Bila Tserkva, Kharkiv, Sumy and Odesa were also hit.

The strikes came after a major attack on Wednesday and followed the expiry of a three-day ceasefire on Monday.
