Russian overnight drone and missile attack on Kyiv kills at least five
Russia launched drones and missiles at Kyiv overnight, killing at least five people and injuring 16, according to the head of the city's military administration.
Tymur Tkachenko said the attack hit several districts of the Ukrainian capital and warned residents to stay in shelters.
Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged across the city.
In the Darnytsia district, a residential building partially collapsed, trapping several people under rubble.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a search and rescue operation was under way, and Ukraine's Emergency Service said at least 10 people had been rescued.
The attack adds to pressure on the capital after a rare daytime strike earlier on Wednesday.
That assault was described by Ukrainian officials as a massive aerial attack with more than 800 drones.
Officials said debris from the overnight attack also sparked fires in the Dniprovskyi and Obolonskyi districts, including on the roof of a five-storey residential building and in a 12-storey apartment block.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the earlier wave of drones had been launched in waves and deliberately targeted regions closest to NATO borders.
