Seven killed in Russian drone strike on Kyiv apartment block
Seven people have been killed and at least 20 others are believed missing after a Russian drone struck an apartment building in Kyiv, according to Ukrainian officials.
The attack hit a nine-storey block in the capital's Darnytsia neighbourhood on Thursday local time.
Officials said the building's entrance was smashed, trapping residents and forcing emergency crews to work through the rubble.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said dozens more people were injured in the strike.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said one of those killed was a 12-year-old girl and declared Friday a day of mourning in the city.
Rescue workers used cherry pickers and dug under concrete slabs as they searched for people believed to still be missing.
Officials said all 18 apartments in the building were destroyed.
The strike came during a third straight day of widespread Russian attacks across Ukraine, with further strikes elsewhere in the country wounding more than two dozen civilians.
Ukrainian officials said the assault showed no sign of easing despite Russian claims that the war was nearing its end.
