The EU described the crash as a grave incident and a reckless violation of the EU's airspace. It said the event was a direct result of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and that Russia bears full responsibility for the consequences of its escalatory behaviour and continued military actions.

The statement said those actions threaten the security of EU citizens, regional stability, and international peace. It expressed full solidarity with Romania and the people affected by the incident.

The EU also said it remains committed to Romania's security and to the security of all Member States. It said it is ready to accelerate efforts to strengthen protection against such threats, including through Eastern Flank Watch and other initiatives aimed at consolidating European defence readiness.
