Russian overnight strikes hit Ukraine's industrial and energy infrastructure

Russian missile and drone attacks overnight hit several regions of Ukraine, killing at least three people and damaging industrial and energy infrastructure. The strikes affected the Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv and Poltava regions, according to Ukrainian officials. Power was also cut to nearly 100,000 consumers in the north of the country.

Officials said the heaviest damage was reported in Dnipro, where three people were killed and six others were wounded. Regional authorities said missiles, drones and artillery damaged business and warehouse premises in the city, while strikes also hit industrial sites in Pavlohrad and Kryvyi Rih. Ukraine's air force said the overnight barrage involved 212 drones, four cruise missiles and an unspecified number of Oniks anti-ship and ballistic missiles.

The attacks also disrupted the energy system. In Chernihiv, an attack on a power facility left nearly 100,000 consumers without electricity, highlighting the continuing vulnerability of Ukraine's grid to long-range strikes. In Poltava, regional officials said a "massive" attack hit an industrial enterprise and a critical infrastructure facility.

Russia's defence ministry said its forces struck industrial and military facilities, the fuel and energy sector, port infrastructure and sea vessels used by the Ukrainian military. The strikes come as Ukraine remains under sustained pressure from repeated attacks on infrastructure that supports both civilian life and wartime logistics. Energy facilities have been a recurring target since the wider war began, with outages and damage often affecting households, businesses and public services.

The latest barrage also coincided with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's arrival in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, where the war and possible security support were expected to be central topics. The timing gives the attack added political weight, even as the immediate impact was felt most sharply in the regions hit overnight. Dnipro, a major industrial centre, has repeatedly been exposed to missile and drone strikes during the war.

Kryvyi Rih, also named by regional officials, is Zelenskyy's hometown and has been among the cities affected by the conflict's wider economic and human toll. What remains unclear is the full scale of damage across all affected regions and how quickly power and industrial services can be restored. It is also not yet clear how many of the launched drones and missiles were intercepted before reaching their targets.

Further official updates are likely as regional authorities assess casualties, repair infrastructure and report on the aftermath of the overnight barrage.
