US-Iran ceasefire described as on 'massive life support' after Trump rejects Tehran proposal
US President Donald Trump has said Iran's peace proposal is "stupid" and described the ceasefire between the two countries as being on "massive life support".
His comments came after Tehran set out a response focused on ending the war across the region and securing sanctions relief.
According to the supplied report, Iran's reply called for compensation for war damage, an end to the US naval blockade, a guarantee of no further attacks, and the lifting of sanctions and the ban on Iranian oil sales.
It also stressed Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.
Mr Trump said the proposal was "totally unacceptable" and told reporters at the Oval Office that he was still aiming for a "complete victory" in the war against Iran.
Iran's foreign ministry said separately that it had demanded only its "legitimate rights".
The exchange matters because it suggests the ceasefire effort remains fragile and that the two sides are still far apart on the terms for any wider de-escalation.
The report also says oil prices rose by more than $4 a barrel as markets reacted to the stalemate.
Iran's response was said to have focused on ending the war on all fronts, especially Lebanon, where Israel is fighting Iran-backed Hezbollah militants.
