Russian strikes hit multiple Ukrainian regions, killing 2 and wounding dozens

Russian missile and drone attacks hit several regions across Ukraine overnight, leaving at least two people dead and dozens injured, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. The strikes were reported in Odesa, Kharkiv and Pavlohrad, as well as in the regions of Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Kherson, Sumy, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk. Zelensky said residential buildings, port facilities and energy infrastructure were among the targets damaged in the latest wave.

In Kharkiv, a drone struck a residential building and destroyed four floors of the structure, Zelensky said. In Pavlohrad, an attack hit an area near a shopping centre and also damaged energy infrastructure, leaving nine people injured, including four children. In Odesa and the surrounding region, eight people were reported injured, while rescue teams worked at damaged residential buildings.

Zelensky said the attacks took place during the night and that power restoration work was under way. The president said the strikes formed part of what he described as a systematic campaign against Ukraine's infrastructure. He also said damage to the port of Odesa posed a threat to global food security.

According to his statement, Russia launched 61 missiles of different types, more than 1,560 attack drones and 1,540 aerial bombs against Ukraine during the week, including 56 ballistic missiles. He called for tougher sanctions on Russia and stronger air defence support for Ukraine. The latest attacks underline the continuing pressure on Ukraine's civilian and strategic infrastructure more than two years into the war.

Energy facilities have repeatedly been targeted during the conflict, creating risks for electricity supply, heating and essential services. Damage to port infrastructure is also significant because Odesa is a key Black Sea gateway for exports and imports, including food shipments. The strikes also come against the backdrop of repeated long-range attacks that have stretched Ukrainian air defences across multiple regions.

The areas named in the latest wave span the north, south and east of the country, showing the broad reach of the assault. The inclusion of both residential and energy sites suggests a mix of civilian and strategic targets, although the full extent of the damage has not yet been independently verified. It remains unclear how many of the reported injuries are serious and whether all affected sites have been secured.

Further updates are likely as rescue teams continue work in the damaged areas and authorities assess the impact on power supply and port operations. It is also not yet clear whether additional strikes were intercepted or how much of the reported damage can be repaired quickly.
