The conflict in the Middle East widened further after the United States launched fresh strikes on Iran, following a renewed wave of attacks across the region. Separate reporting said a US attack on Iran's Qeshm island killed three people, including a two year old child, while Iraq condemned Saudi US strikes on Iran backed Popular Mobilisation Forces targets as a violation of sovereignty after at least 20 PMF deaths.  🔗  🔗  🔗

Iran is also expected to receive up to 400 portable anti air missiles from China in the coming weeks, according to people familiar with the deal, a move that would add to regional security concerns. At the same time, the Houthis are said to be preparing a plan to impose tolls on Red Sea shipping, while Saudi Arabia is seeking an international coalition to protect vessels after attacks linked to the group expanded to Saudi ships.  🔗  🔗  🔗

In Gaza, Israel confirmed an airstrike that destroyed the Al Muttaqin mosque in Gaza City, after the bombing was acknowledged days after it took place. Japan faced a major natural disaster as emergency crews continued rescue operations after a magnitude 7.1 earthquake in southern Kyushu, with at least 13 people now confirmed dead. Asia Pacific markets were mixed to weaker, with Japan and South Korea under heavy pressure, the Nikkei 225 down 4.2% and the Kospi sharply lower, while Hong Kong and Australia posted gains.  🔗

Wall Street closed sharply lower, the Nasdaq Composite fell 4.9% and the S&P 500 lost 2.4% as technology, AI chip and growth shares sold off, with Tesla and Nvidia among the biggest drags.  🔗

European equities opened higher, led by the DAX and FTSE 100, as oil, gold and the euro firmed and the dollar weakened.  🔗
