Day News Recap: Deadly disasters and conflict flare across multiple regions as Ukraine war escalates

Ukraine also reported fresh Russian strikes on Kyiv, where six people were injured at a market, and elsewhere in the country, while a separate report said British made drones were used to strike targets inside mainland Russia for the first time.  🔗  🔗

In the Middle East, Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon killed 11 people, including three children, even as Israel said it had killed a Hezbollah commander in the same area.  🔗 Israel's defence minister also ordered the military to prepare a plan to transfer civilian law enforcement in the occupied West Bank to the police, prompting annexation warnings.  🔗 Hamas political leader Khalil al Hayya is heading to Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials as efforts continue to narrow gaps on Gaza, ahead of a visit by Jared Kushner.  🔗

Indonesia faced one of the day's worst natural disasters, with the death toll from the magnitude 7.7 Flores earthquake rising to at least 53, after earlier reports put the toll at 47 and said rescue teams were still searching collapsed buildings and landslide debris.  🔗  🔗
