In the Middle East, Jared Kushner is due to meet Benjamin Netanyahu after holding rare talks with Hamas linked figures in Egypt, in a renewed push to advance a Gaza deal. At the same time, Israel's national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir has been reported saying Israeli forces should kill 30 to 40 people in Gaza every night, remarks that have drawn fresh attention to the war's conduct.  🔗  🔗

Cross border fighting between Ukraine and Russia continued, with Russian officials saying six people were killed and four others injured in overnight Ukrainian strikes on Belgorod region. In Europe, the European Union is also preparing a much wider package of sanctions against Russia in the autumn, according to foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.  🔗  🔗

Elsewhere in Europe, a wildfire in Belgium's High Fens park has spread to about 3,000 hectares and remains out of control, with evacuations continuing near the German border.
