Russia and Ukraine remain locked in a widening war of attrition. Vladimir Putin has ruled out a ceasefire on long range strikes and renewed his warning that Russia could use nuclear weapons if it is attacked with conventional missiles, while Russian airstrikes hit Kyiv's Southern Bridge and other civilian sites as the death toll rose.  🔗  🔗

On the diplomatic and institutional front, the ICC has ended its insurer contract with Axa amid pressure linked to possible US sanctions, Iran has urged Iraq to lift flight restrictions it says are tied to sanctions, and the FAO says a senior official's contract was not renewed after criticism of Israeli policies in Gaza. Asia Pacific trading was mixed, with Tokyo surging as the Nikkei 225 jumped 3.7% and the Nikkei 225 ETF rose 4.1%, while the Hang Seng fell 3.2% and the Kospi lost 1.2%, the yen softened and gold held firm.  🔗

Europe opened lower, with the FTSE 100, DAX, CAC 40 and Euro Stoxx 50 all under pressure as bond yields rose, the euro weakened and Brent crude and natural gas slipped.  🔗
